Good morning! It’s Brother Neville with your thought for today, Friday, March 22nd.
Before I say anything else I hope you’ll join me in a big Happy Birthday shout-out to my lovely wife Cathy for her big day tomorrow. I love you, cutie!
Our current bible study at church is on the Revelation of John and as I was thinking about it this week I was reminded that there is one thing about the book that always stands out to me. What do you think that might be? Well, it’s not all the fantastic imagery or anything like that, it’s simply that the book resolutely looks forward, toward God’s desired future. And as I sometimes do, I took a look at some of my past “Thoughts for Today” to see how God has been at work. Yesterday I looked back to March 23, 2021 and was humbled to read what God had put on my heart that day. We were in the midst of challenging times for our church around merger, COVID fallout, and disaffiliation decisions, but at the same time it was exciting to see what God had in store.
Anyway, three years ago I wrote this: “If I had spent too much time “thinking of the land from which I had gone out,” I wouldn’t have made it. I’d have run home! Over all the years that are now behind me, yet were once in front of me, there have been countless opportunities to look backward, but God always put something in front of me that was better. Ultimately we know this is not our home. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus and journey toward our ultimate home in heaven. Why, because it’s better than our wildest dreams! Check it out:
The future is ahead of us, not behind us. It’s a future waiting to be discovered, not a bunch of stuff dragged along with us. That only slows us down. The consistent biblical witness is that God is always about what will be, not what was. And it’s always better than anything we dreamed about!
Be blessed today my friends, and remember God loves you and so do I.
