Checking Your Spiritual Vitals

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.”2 Corinthians 13:5 (ESV)

Reflection:
Every morning, you may check your blood pressure, count your pills, or log your steps. These are good habits—wise, even. After all, your heart matters. But as you place the cuff around your arm and monitor your physical health, a deeper question stirs: When was the last time I checked my spiritual heart?

The apostle Paul, writing to the church at Corinth, wasn’t questioning their salvation to shame them—he was inviting them to self-awareness, to soul care. “Examine yourselves,” he wrote. Don’t just go through the motions of faith; measure the depth of it.

Just as hypertension can go unnoticed without regular checks, so too can spiritual drift. We can look healthy on the outside—attending church, serving in ministry, saying the right words—but inside, our faith may be flatlining.

Ask yourself today:

  • Am I trusting in Christ daily?
  • Is prayer a habit or a lifeline?
  • Do I hunger for God’s Word, or have I grown numb to it?
  • Am I walking in forgiveness and grace, or holding grudges and guilt?

Like physical health, spiritual health requires consistent attention. Not to earn God’s favor—but to live fully in it. The good news is, unlike a blood pressure monitor, you don’t need a device to test your heart—you just need honesty before God and a willingness to grow.

Be blessed today, my friends! And remember, God loves you and I do too.

Prayer:
Lord, I spend time checking my body but so often neglect my soul. Help me examine my heart with the same diligence. Show me where I’ve grown cold, complacent, or self-reliant. Renew in me a spirit of dependence on You. Teach me to seek health in the hidden places. Amen.

Practice:
As you check your physical health today, pause and ask God to check your heart. Read Psalm 139:23-24 and invite the Spirit to gently point out any area needing His healing touch.
